The Challenge

In 2020, Ausherman was in the midst of a rebrand and needed to redesign the Ausherman Properties website to match their new aesthetic and establish new web design standards. The user interface and user experience of the site was dated and needed a facelift. They also needed a new layout established for ausherman.com – a portal page for their two entities, Ausherman Properties and Ausherman Family Foundation.

While redesigning Ausherman’s portfolio and project pages, we faced the challenge of creating a page layout that would work for past projects, projects currently underway, and projects that were coming down the pipeline. Another challenge of the projects being in various stages of completion was supporting graphics – many of the projects didn’t have high-resolution photography – or any photography at all.

The Solution

To begin, the team crawled the existing website to establish a list of all the existing pages. We then cross-referenced this list with the client’s most recent projects and content to create a new sitemap. After a content overhaul, we got started on finessing the new branding standards and designing a prototype of the website’s homepage. Once the homepage was approved, we moved onto a prototype of a “project” page – which would set the standards for Ausherman’s entire portfolio of work on the site. To mitigate the challenge of having a wide range of different photo quantities and qualities, we ended up creating three different project page templates.

The new website went live in June of 2020 and has received phenomenal feedback from the Frederick Community. In September it was announced as the winner of the Best Website Award of Excellence from the Frederick County Building Industry Association (FCBIA).


